Veracruz, Mexico, Sep 26 (EFE).- Universidad Veracruzana’s publishing house has created an online catalog of 2,000 titles published over the 61 years of its existence.
Half of the titles consist of literary works from diverse writers, including Elena Garro, Eraclio Zepeda, Rosario Castellanos, Alvaro Mutis, Jaime Sabines, Juan de la Cabada and Luis Cernuda, while the rest are books on the humanities, social sciences and physical sciences.
The director of the UV publishing house, Edgar Garcia Valencia, said the goal was to show the broader public the hard work done for six decades.
“It took us a year and a half. We had to re-edit the publication profiles the publishing house has had,” Garcia Valencia told EFE.
Of the 2,000 books, 100 have free access and 200 others will be free by the end of 2018, Garcia Valencia said, adding that 600 of the titles can be found in the collections of other libraries in Mexico, as well as on Amazon, Casa del Libro and Unebook.
The UV’s online catalog is the second-largest in the country, trailing only the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), but it offers more details about the books published in the past six decades, he said.
With 85,000 undergraduate and graduate students, UV is the largest public university in southern Mexico.
The UV, thanks to the online catalog, has uploaded the largest number of public university texts in Mexico to the Web Of Science, a platform that collects citations from scientific publications in all disciplines.
