Jalisco attorney general dismissed over abandoned corpses scandal

Guadalajara, Mexico, Sep 19 (EFE).- The Attorney general of Jalisco state was dismissed Wednesday over a scandal, where corpses from the Jalisco Forensics Institute were discovered in an abandoned refrigeration container in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

Jalisco State’s Governor Aristoteles Sandoval said that Raul Sanchez was dismissed on account of his insensitive handling of the corpses.

He is the second official to be dismissed over the scandal after Jalisco Forensics Institute chief Luis Octavio Cotero.

Human Rights Prosecutor Dante Haro also revised the number of corpses in the refrigeration container to 322, out of which 273 were moved and abandoned twice in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

“The refrigeration container did not have 157 corpses but 273,” Haro said, while giving out details of the investigation after the case became public knowledge.

According to the investigation, on Aug. 31 the former coroner had authorized the container to be taken to the facility where it was kept until Sep.14 before being abandoned last weekend.
