New minimum wage will be $12.00 per hour
SAN JOSE, CA – Minimum wage employees who work in San José will receive $12.00 per hour starting July 1, 2017, an increase over the current minimum wage of $10.50 per hour.
The increase reflects the phased approach approved by the San Jose City Council in November 2016 to reach a $15 per hour minimum wage by January 1, 2019. The milestone dates and wage rates are: $10.50 per hour beginning January 1, 2017; $12 per hour beginning July 1, 2017; $13.50 per hour beginning January 1, 2018; and $15 per hour beginning January 1, 2019.
“This increase will provide a well-deserved boost for the thousands of hard-working families in our community who are struggling to keep up with the extraordinarily high cost of living in Silicon Valley,” said Mayor Sam Liccardo. “San José is proud to be among the half- dozen cities in our region that are collectively moving towards a $15 per hour minimum wage by 2019.”

About the San José Minimum Wage Initiative – Voters approved the San José Minimum Wage Initiative in November 2012 and it took effect on March 11, 2013.
