SpaceX rocket explodes on launch pad at Cape Canaveral

Miami, Sep 1 (EFE).- A rocket being tested by private launch company SpaceX exploded Thursday on the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, sending a huge plume of smoke into the air, but no injuries have been reported, officials said.

The unmanned Falcon 9 rocket, which was scheduled for launch in the next few days, exploded while undergoing tests, NASA said.

No workers were in the area when the blast occurred, SpaceX representatives told the media.

The plume of dense black smoke rising above the launch pad could be seen for several kilometers.
