Marion Suge Knight on Thursday pleaded no contest to manslaughter from a 2015 hit-and-run incident in Compton, a city some 20 km south of Los Angeles.

Knight, 53, will be formally sentenced on Oct. 4 in a Los Angeles court.

In exchange for the no-contest plea deal, his two other pending charges will be dismissed. Knight was separately accused of threatening F. Gary Gray, director of the 2015 film “Straight Outta Compton” and of robbing a photographer in Beverly Hills.

The rap mogul has been detained in a prison since Jan. 2015, when he was arrested after running over two men with his vehicle following an altercation, which ended up killing one of them, Terry Carter.

As the founder of famous record label Death Row Records, Knight signed with various prominent American rappers of the 90s, including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

The producer, who is known for his constant involvement in illicit and controversial activities, has had numerous legal troubles including illegal possession of arms, robbery and aggression.

In 1997 he was sentenced to jail for violating the terms of his probation.

Knight was driving the car in which Tupac Shakur was shot and killed on Sep. 7, 1996 in Las Vegas.
