Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa to be first tourist to fly around Moon

Washington DC, Sep 17 (EFE).- The aerospace manufacturer SpaceX announced Monday that the company’s first private passenger to the Moon will be Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa.

“The first private passenger to fly around the Moon aboard BFR is fashion innovator and globally recognized art curator

Yusaku Maezawa,” SpaceX said on the Twitter account.

Maezawa, 42, is the founder and CEO of Zozo, the largest online fashion retailer in Japan.

Maezawa is also known as an contemporary art collector and curator with a large collection at his Contemporary Art Foundation in Tokyo, which features works of various renowned painters like Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Maezawa announced on his Twitter and Instagram accounts that he plans to take a select group of artists with him on his trip around the moon saying “I choose to go to the Moon, with artists,” adding then “What will they see ? What will they feel ?

And what will they create ?”

According to Forbes, Maezawa is the eighteenth richest man in Japan with a fortune of $2.9 billion.
Maezawa’s trip to the moon will be made on board a Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), which is currently still in development.

The Moon is about 385,000 kilometers away from Earth and the last time an astronaut traveled there was in 1972 as part of the Apollo 17 mission.

Founded by Elon Musk and conceived as a company with long-term ambitions such as bringing humans to Mars, SpaceX will ferry four NASA astronauts to space in 2019 with its Crew Dragon or Dragon 2 spacecraft.

NASA has also hired SpaceX and Boeing to develop commercial space trips from the US.

Washington, 17 sep (EFE).- La compañía aeroespacial SpaceX anunció hoy que llevará a Yusaku Maezawa al espacio para que vuele alrededor de la Luna, lo que convertirá a este multimillonario japonés en el primer turista espacial en hacerlo.

De 42 años, Maezawa es el fundador y CEO de Zozo, el negocio minorista de moda en línea más grande de Japón.
Maezawa también posee una amplia colección de arte contemporáneo en su fundación privada Contemporary Art Foundation, ubicada en Tokio y en la que se expone obras de Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder o Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Según Forbes, Maezawa es el decimoctavo hombre más rico de Japón con una fortuna de 2.900 millones de dólares.
SpaceX, fundada por Elon Musk, llevará a Maezawa en un vehículo de lanzamiento Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), todavía en desarrollo.

La Luna está a unos 385.000 kilómetros de la Tierra y la última vez que un astronauta estuvo ahí fue en 1972 en la misión Apolo 17.

Concebida como una empresa con enormes ambiciones a largo plazo como la de conseguir llevar seres humanos a Marte, SpaceX se encargará el año próximo de trasladar al espacio en su nave Crew Dragon o Dragon 2 a cuatro astronautas de la NASA.

De hecho, la NASA contrató a SpaceX -y también a Boeing- para recuperar los viajes al espacio desde suelo estadounidense.
